HAVE YOU CONSIDERED JOINING THE STANIER 8F LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY?
In August 1968 there were no plans for the official preservation of a Stanier 8F 2-
The 8F Preservation Society decided to purchase one of these fine locomotives and successfully acquired No 48773 which went to the Severn Valley Railway. As it happened the Society saved not only the locomotive in the best condition but one with a fascinating history of service abroad during World War 2.
The locomotive, equally well known as LMS 8233 or BR 48773, has been based on the SVR since then, apart from periods on hire to other private railways and occasional forays on to the main line. The locomotive remains in the ownership of the Society which became The Stanier 8F Locomotive Society Ltd in 1970.
Ordinary membership of the Society is currently £18 per year and members receive the magazine Black Eight, have the opportunity to join Society working parties on the locomotive and participate in other activities.
New members are most welcome, whether they wish to take an active or 'armchair' role. For further information please contact Peter Stych at 73 Maesquarre Road, Betws, Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, SA18 2LF. Telephone 01269 594865. (For a Membership application form in PDF format click here)
